Intake helped +2 mpg on my 2v. AEM brute force but they work well in conjunction with exhaust which i also have. My firneds has a 06 5.4 with the brute force, exact same exhaust setup as me, plus a bully dog chip and he will consistently pull 20-21 mpg at speed limit (65 mph) and he has a small lift with 35" toyo mud terrains. And this is figured out by hand, not the dream meter in the dash.

Sure, the Gotts mod will help some in that one restrictive spot, but there are a lot more places on a stock intake that are restrictive. Its never gonna flow as much airflow as an aftermarket intake can.

I believe the general consensus is that an CAI on its own is a waste of money. Unless you like the extra intake noise.

Before you or anyone else spends a bunch of money on some sort of magic add on (preformance or MPG in anything short of a large overhaul) ponder this one. In mass production Ford would be able to add those mods from the factory for peanuts. If a single gimick item like a CAI would boost MPG 20%, Ford would have them on the truck straight from the factory to give it's product a competetive advantage over GM and Dodge.

Just saying...

Here is the site I used for my intake mod. I have seen it called the Gotts Mod or DWV Mod. From what I can tell they do the same thing. I bought all of the required pieces from my local Lowes store and it took longer to buy the stuff than it did to put it together. So far everything works good and I have had no problems.

They do, the higher model mustangs have an aftermarket style intake on them with the open cone filter and just one straight tube. The only reason all the automotive brands use the stock style most often is because they want the intake noise as quiet as possible even if it does take away flow because if you can hear it the normal customer would complain. it's not a gimmick.

And it is an option for any ford V8 thru Roush. It wouldn't be offered by them if it didn't help. I'm not saying the gotts isn't a viable way to help some, i just don't believe it helps as much.
