Advice needed on 50 MPH whine
Need some guidance on this issue I'm currently having on my 2008 XLT 2WD with 5.4 and 107K miles on odometer.
When reaching speeds at and above 50mph can hear whining noise that feels drive train related. First noticed when entering highway on ramp and seems to slightly change when steering around curves at highway speeds. Most prevalent steering around right hand bends in the road. Leaning towards front drivers side wheel bearing or possibly rear differential. Transmission fluid last changed at 60K and rear differential has never been serviced yet. The rotors and pads were changed at 45K and do have about 60K on them. Napa premium if I remember correctly with new spindle nuts. Any thoughts or direction is welcome. |
with 60K on your rotor bearings I would check them first, makes sense with your findings.

Update: took to my mechanic and we took it for a quick test drive. He immediately said the same thing, wheel bearing. Ordered upgraded coated rotors that come with spindle nuts and got ceramic pads for installation early next week. Will update after installation for others.

I added a billet grille to my expedition and it whined @ 65mph... very annoying, had to remove
