Does it use the cig lighter for power, or is it hardwired in that spot?

Kevinpmac 03-08-2019 01:13 PM

Jealous. Can you please share where, what & how?

I’m painting my kids room now so not enough time to write out all the details but will later.

Its a system that is supposed to be plugged into the cig lighter. I hard wired instead so it’s really flush and works with the ignition. I took out the lighter where it’s just a hole, and I mounted the screen in there. I wired it into the switched power that goes to the hvac controller.

It uses external tpms sensors, meaning it replaces your valve caps. They also make an internal that I’m going to do when I get my new wheels mounted.

It shows psi and tire temp for each wheel.

The issue I seem to have with these systems is the possibility of the sensors coming loose or ripping the stems out.

his truck doesn’t have tpms. That’s why he installed this. So no oem sensors.

you can get the system with external sensors that replace your valve caps or they make one with internal sensors where you need to take off the tires to install them. I bought both. I’m putting the internal in when I get my new tires installed, running the externals for now.

The receiver does not work with the OEM sensors.

Perfect. I actually changed to the internal sensor version a few weeks ago and put this one on my gf car.

danlexani 08-20-2019 03:07 PM

pretty cool
i use something like that (at least the interface looks the same) for my trailer tires . the module however is solar powered as well so it sits on my dash when towing

That's good to hear! Thanks for the reply! I was nervous about the quality of the external sensors because of a few reviews on amazon but I think those may just be operator error. Wish I would have found the internal version when I put new tires on, not wanting to pull off my tires for the install.

Just a thought on the external tpms they could tear the valve stems your best bet is internal or replace the valve stems with metal ones. I put the metal ones on my motorcycle with a t on them so I don't have to remove the sensors to manually put air in if necessary
