Hello All, i have a 2007 4.5 ext. Cab. and i notice the AC lines is frozen, the switch is off and heat is on but the AC Compressor keeps going... I cant find how to stop it, Its Winter In Toronto,
How to disable until Spring ?

What climate control do you have, manual or automatic?

What was the ambient temperature when the lines were observed to be "frozen"? That mode was the climate control system in?

FWIW, it is completely normal for the compressor to run under certain conditions, temperature permitting, in order to dehumidify the cabin and defrost air. Take care that you do not confuse ordinary operation with a "problem" because you don't understand how it was designed to work.... You may benefit from studying your owner's manual.

 

any chance you have it set on ‘defrost’ setting ?

sorry about that.... i found a relay R202 on the driver side firewall, pulled it and ac is off.... its for ac only and not connected to anything else.... Yet. but thats all i need for now and worry in summer............. Thanks all!

 

Except that if you have humidity inside the vehicle you may actually want to run the ac even with the heat on to remove moisture from the air and help with defrost. If that's not an issue then your plan is solid.

 

There are others on this Forum that know more about A/C systems, but ice on the A/C lines especially in winter points to low freon pressure in the system. As others have said the A/C system design uses the A/C system to dehumidify the air even in defrost and some other modes where the controls are warming your truck. Disabling the A/C compressor can lead to future problems (clutch lockup) especially in road salt conditions. Defrost works a lot better if the air is dehumidified prior to being heated. Ever wonder where that ice on the inside of the windshield came from?
