Default AC CLutch wont engage...

Should I attempt to swap this out on my own or should i pay the stealership $680 (clutch, coil, pulley, including labor & tax) to fix it? I can get the parts, Clutch, pulley, coil, for just over $125. Any one done this on their own? Is it hard or just like anything else, just nuts and bolts? Im very mechanically inclined. Have done all upgrades to my truck myself, except for the body lift, so I think I can handle this. Just want to see what others have done if they experienced the same issue. Thanks!

Damn, can you post their breakdown? That is brand new compressor installed territory on the pricing.

You'll need some special tools to do it yourself, plus you'll "need" to have the refrigerant evacuated by a shop. It may be worth it to get a quote from a local shop because you'd have to get the tools, you may be able to rent them at a parts store, though.

No one has any suggestions? For those that have read/are reading, would you attempt to change this out yourself to save $550 or would you let the dealer do the work?

Yeah, it really doesn't look that bad on the service procedure.

Not sure of their complete breakdown. I phoned in a quote and he called me back. As far as refrigerant goes, I figured I would go to a shop and have it removed, then would attempt to do the change on my own, if I went that route. Part of me wants to do this to save 550, but then again a part of me says "pay someone w/ expertise to get your AC runnin right". I'm torn to say the least (not to mention sweatin on the drive home everyday).

Thanks for the inputs so far...

Do you have a link to that procedure? If i could see what is needed, I might be more inclined to do it myself ya know. My Haynes is at the house (somewhere).

When I changed the AC clutch on my mustang, there was no need to discharge the system. I don't know why it woulb ne different on the truck.
