Also..your traction control is controlled by your abs. Does your traction control light come on and stay on? When your light comes on you can take it to a dealer or shop have them check the code and they can tell you what side its on. My passenger side sensor was bad. I had it replaced but it kept tripping, same side. So I checked the connection and I didn't plug it in all the way. Hasn't given me anymore problems.

i have the same problem with my abs light coming on when i drive more that 15 miles in the highway. it only started doing this after i put a larger set of tires than factory on. i have an EDGE programer and changed the tire size in the computer for the speedometer but i still get the abs light. next time it comes on ill see if the programer can read the code.

I know this thread has been dead for a few months but I had the same issue with the abs light only coming on at hwy. speeds. City driving it never came on unless I went over 60mph. I had an abs code stored that pointed to the front right sensor. Right before I bought a new sensor I drove the truck in heavy rain and my abs started to activate at low speed braking until it threw a code/light. The new (but different) code pointed to the right front also. I figured it was a short at this point so I unplugged the sensor where it is attached at the inner fender well and cleaned the connection and plugged it back together. Never had issues again. I added a leveling kit about a month before and I think I may have loosened the connection enough for the elements to get in. Worth a shot to check your connections before throwing parts at it. You can get a decent scanner that does abs for under $100, I'd do that before paying the dealer to scan it.
I also noticed the sensor cable was pulling tight with the wheel turned hard left so I rerouted it to give a bit more slack. It could have broke wires if left that way too long, also worth checking if you have a lift or level kit.

where at is the connector on the inner fender well and is it pretty much the same on both sides ? you have a brand of scanner you would recommend ? ive been thinkin about getting one for a while but would like one that would do more than just my ford truck.

As for a scanner that does all brands, (there are others but these are what I use after junking my Actron scanner)
OTC 9450 does abs, srs, obdII under $100 not updatable (I own)
Autel 619 does abs, srs, obdII about $150 is updatable
Autel MD802 does all systems including transmission codes about $250 and is updatable (I own)
All prices via eBay and US sellers
(Prices are all over the place on these models, just search for the best shipped price and a US seller, there are plenty on there). The Autel models do real time data and can record, not sure if the OTC does or not, it's my back up. These are just readers, they don't program. I don't know of any budget programmers that will do multiple vehicles.
It's been almost 900 miles of highway and off road with no abs lights, before cleaning/re-seating the connection I was getting the light every day I went over 60mph.

Just wanted to chime in for extra confirmation for anyone who needs it.
Mine would come on and off 100% randomly. Had access to an ABS scanner, which pointed me to a front left sensor. The prongs on the connector itself were full of dirt and corrosion. Doesn't surprise me, as my truck has lived in the salt belt all its life.
I shoved a q-tip down there with some alcohol and cleaned it right out.
Snapped the connector back in, and no light since.
