Default ? about tire and wheel size

This question has probably been asked a hundred times but im new so please bear with me. I want to add some black rims and new tires to my 2005 4x2 XLT, what size can i use that wont look stupid (too big or small) or effect performance? What can you dudes recommend for affordability and descent looks? Thanks in advance. BTW the truck is a light grey with black tonneou and i just ordered black powder coated nerf bars. Pretty boring truck thats why i want to switch it up a bit.

Since it sounds like your going for the street truck route, I say go from anywhere in the neighborhood of 18"-22" Make sure you do some research on backspacking and offset though so that you dont wind up with the whole wheel sticking out of the wheel well and making your truckk luck like those guys who lifted their trucks and didnt know what they were doing when they bought the wheels
