$700 For Spark Plug Change + $50 for Each Broken Plug!!!
#11
Had mine changed (06) for little less than $500. Guy warned me one could break...and one did. He told me in all his years he'd never broke one till now. Took a day longer since they had to wait on the tool. Just glad I didn't try to do it myself!

I paid $660 at my dealership for them to do it. That's including them supplying plugs, and doing the rear diff fluid as well. Also did an oil change.. I'm in Alaska, I'm sure you could get a better deal.

I bought the tool and the OTC socket and didn't break a one. 1 1/2 hrs and done.
Now, had I not bought the tool, I would've broken all 8!
I got a good deal on the plugs for $75 shipped, and the socket was a nice little helper. I'll keep the extractor as I'm a tool nut anyhow.

Every time I read these 5.4 spark plug replacement price threads, I wonder if the front embelms should be Mercedes stars instead of blue ovals.
If you're not able to do the work yourself, you're at the mercy ($$$$) of those who can...
I work with a guy who pays $350 for oil changes on his 500 SEL. "but I got a great deal when I bought it", he says.

Just got mine done at an independent shop in southside VA (between Clarksville & Boydton). The owner had worked a 2 different Ford dealerships previously and was familiar with the problem and had the Lisle tool. I got his name by asking around. The total was under $360 with one broken plug. I asked him his secret for removal but wouldn't tell me. Maybe a 'lil shine will loosen him up.

I bought mine online somewhere. It's just a socket that is about 6" long and made exactly for the ford. That way you don't loose the socket down there after you install a plug. Also, I installed Champion plugs and if I remember correct, they required a different socket size... Kinda oddball I guess.
Champions worked great for me for 60,000 KM but I'm developing a little bit of a stumble at idle now. It only happens like once a month while I am at a stop light. Not a big deal and doesn't come close to stalling. but I'm changing plugs soon for Motorcrafts and just gonna change them more often. Not the Ford recommended 60,000 Miles

Are you the original owner of the truck? If not maybe you'll get lucky and you'll have the new plugs in already. I bought my truck with just under the 160k km and they were already done before and I did them again at 200k. The job is fairly easy if you take your time and don't rush.
