6" Lift?
#21
I wanted to do a 6" lift, but after more readin', I'd have to change my wheels, regear, and other crap that really adds a LOT to the overall cost of things. Looks like I'll probably wind up just levelin' and puttin' 33" tires on it, since I'd probably need to regear with 35's.

You wont have to re gear with 35's.Anything over 35's,then yes you would want to re gear, now key word(want) to as to gain the power back/mpg's.Now some lift companies you don't have to buy new wheels,rancho/fabtech.You can fit 35's with a leveling kit also, just have to shave the front valences to fit the 35's.If you look around out their, you can find deals on lifts. So don't let all this deter you man.
I just played around with the tire calculator on the Discount Tire website, and it would pretty much be pointless for me to put 33's on my truck. It's only a .87" difference between the stock 275x55x20 (31.92" diameter) Pirellis and the 295x55x20 (32.78" diameter) Nitto Trail Grapplers. That's not enough of a difference to spend the money on changin' the tires out, unless the Pirellis just need to be replaced. The 295x65x20 (35.1" diameter) Nitto Trail Grapplers would be a big enough change (3.19") to justify buyin' new tires to get a bigger size, though. So I guess there would be no point in me runnin' out and buyin' new tires unless I'm gonna go with 35's.
Will a Gryphon programmer help get the power back after installin' bigger tires (still have stock exhaust and stock CAI), or is regearin' the only way I'll get the power back? The programmer would be cheaper than regearin' the truck.

Yeah, I saw the Ranch 4" lift will still allow the use of stock wheels. So maybe I'd go that route at some point. That's still about $1,500, and I have a hard time convincin' the Mrs to let me spend that right now. lol

Ya i could have told you their isnt much in hight diference between stock tires and 33's imo anyways.Your best bet if you can afford it,just go with the 35's.Yes a programer will get help you get lost power back and help ya add some.So just go with 35's and a leveling kit,you will notice some hight diference.

I think 2.5" leveling kit, 35's, and a programmer, will probably be the route I'll go. It'll hold me over for a little while until I can set aside some money for the lift and convince the wife why the lift is more important than puttin' the money toward payments.

^^^^What he said also....He knows what he is talking about also. Thanks for chimming in here also.
Well don't go with a sky jacker IMO.Now the pro comp stage 2 sits at the same hight as the fabtech does.Fabtech you can use stock tires and wheels, but with the pro comp,I'm not sure.look up a guy names Atom on here and he can tell you for sure.Yes 35's would go nice and fill in the wheel wall more.Like he said, you could go with the 8inch rize, but its not cheap. Also like he said, are you prepared for the costs that could go with a 6inch lift??Now if you don't off road that much, you wont have much costs, but if you want to off road allot, the you will have maintenance costs to factor in when you purchase your lift. Now you don't always have to re-gear with 35's,but it would help if you did,so thats also what ya want to figure in when you purchase a lift lift kit........If you dont really want to break the bank,go with a 4inch Rancho with 35's and you will sit high enuf. Also the 4inch Rancho doesnt change your trucks symentry all that much,as to wear a 6inch lift changes it more and puts more stress on your truck.

all 6in. kits sit the at the same height, and a 4in. kit will not do any less harm to your truck. with both a 4in. and a 6in. kit you trucks geometry is exactly the same as stock. i have a 6in. fabtech and love it. if you get a stage 2 kit then you can crank it to 8in.s if you want.

My wife is cute, small, quiet, and shy, but she'd whoop my *** in a heartbeat if I said that to her and meant it.

I would have to kinda disagree on that all 6inch kits sit the same.I personally know 2 F-150's that are lifted 6inches.One is a pro-comp,and the other is a fabtech lift. Both have 35's on them,as well as same size rims, and the fabtech seems to sit alitle higher, not by much, but it does.....Did you put your body lift on yourself??If so,i heard a pin the ***,lol

Inaugural TOTM
Yeah I did have Yukon gears in mine. I'm sure one day I'll be back in a truck, just not sure if I'll invest that kind of money in one ever again. All told I had about $13k to $15k in mods when I sold the truck. I got more than blue book for it thanks to the mods, but only because I found a buyer who wanted the mods, but I got nowhere close to the money invested. I knew going into the sale I would never recoup my investment and that will have an impact on whether I decide to do it again. Of course if you plan on keeping the truck forever then it's worth the cost. I never really thought I'd ever sell that truck and I am still amazed that I actually did.
