5w-30 oil in the 5.4 3v a good idea?

I got my DIY revised solenoid in this Saturday. It ended up quieting down the drivers side phaser quite a bit, but I'm still getting a little phaser noise. Overall swapping the solenoids definitely helped quiet the ticking. The truck is the quietest I've ever heard it to be honest..
I had to move my volant intake arm out of the way to allow my power steering reservoir to lay against the fan shroud. There is 3 bolts to holding the reservoir to the bracket.
I also seafoamed the valve body while I had access to it...
The job was easy and took about 15 min. It was definitely worth the trouble to reduce the orifice size with the washer, and the ticking sound has certainly gotten much quieter. The motor still runs like a clock and has the same great power I've come to expect. The best part of this is definitely the quieter drive through window experience. You can still faintly hear the tick, but I believe it is now the normal sound the phasers generally make. Im basing this off the flat rate tech video.

question for you man:
Why did you add the washer on the drivers side solenoid instead of buying a new solenoid for it?
Do you think adding the washer does the same thing as the updated solenoid?

It works great and hasn't given me any problems. Plus it's really easy with a pair of snap ring pliers.

Here's the PDF manual on the 5.4 3v with a good breakdown of how it works. It's a good but long read. http://www.motorcraftservice.com/vdi...es/30n29f0.pdf

Yo Fellas, 2004 LARIAT 5.4 3V (98,000) i am just here to say, i have been experiencing a bad start up rattle and a rattle from 1000 to 1500 rpms for about a year now, tried all of the above from other threads, motorcraft 5w20 with lucas and motorcraft filter, mobile 1 synthetic as well. came accross this thread a few days ago, i changed my oil again with Rotella 5w40 and 1 quart of lucas synthetic stabilizer, and i MUST say, whole different truck. very quiet and no more rattle at any rpm range. i am just here to share my pos outcome and if you are experiencing the rattle as most of us are, try a thicker weight.

I'm interested in this thread because I have been burning oil and blowing a lot of smoke on startup. I'm assuming then thin 5w20 is leaking past the valve seals and burns off at startup. Hopefully the 5w30 will help.

Is shell rotella one of the only oils left with Zinc in them?
When i worked at a race car shop, we would always break in a new motor with Rotella T oil. then change it out for royal purple. Hmmm
