I washed my truck yesterday and the engine seems quieter and runs smoother.

This is why we love anecdotal evidence in technical discussions
Didn't you know that washing a vehicle remedies certain issues? Especially idle and acceleration.
Back on topic though, I wonder if certain brand oils perform better in these trucks

FordTechMakuloco recommends PUP (Pennzoil Ultra Platinum) in a 5w30. Honestly, any oil if fine, so long as it meets API SN. Change it often and be happy.

202k miles
I've used all walks of different brands. From wally world to motorcraft to Mobil. Never noticed much. Every 5k though, I have been using 5w-30 for the last thirty thousand versus 10w-30 I was using. Didn't notice much, maybe an uptick of a microscopic amount in mpg. One things has remained a constant though, motorcraft filter

Probably not that you'd notice.

Initially I think they all perfrom pretty well. It's proven that synthetics are better. Synthetics based on natural gas (such as Pennzoil PurePlus) are purer than those based on crude, so in that respect, it's better for much of the same reason why synthetics, in general, are better than conventional. The question would be how much better? Diminishing returns and all that...

The differences between one brand and another are more in the logevity of the additives, but if your OCI is reasonable I don't believe there's a noticeable difference. IMO, the bottom line is replacing the oil before the addtives lose effectiveness is likely the most important factor.

Default Syn

Cal tech did a real good test about 5 years ago on different oils 1st and dino. Naturally the syn outperformed dino. The top syn was amsoil. Next was Mobil 1. The difference was slight.they said the diff was so slight it did not justify the cost difference. This was before all these new deals lie extended and natural gas based oils. Royal purple and a few others were about middle of the pack with Pennzoil syn. Just sayin.

The way I see it is, pick an oil, change it often.
