I voted 5W20, as called for. Over the years for all the Ford vehicles I have owned, I have put over 300k on the 5.4 using nothing but 5W20 Motorcraft synthetic blend. I have had zero engine oil related failures. I tried 5W30 for 2k miles in my 07 Expedition (to hop on the 5W30 cures all bandwagon) and it idled rougher and louder than with 5W20. I promptly switched back to 5W20 and it quitted right down.

I think I'm going to switch back to 5W-20 at my next change. I don't feel like having to get in there and change my timing stuff all over again, so I'm thinking the recommended thin stuff will ensure that doesn't happen due to oil starvation.

I use 5W20 usually. I've tried a bunch of different kinds though over the years. Never noticed much of a difference to tell if it works better or not so I just keep using 5W20. The engine sounds like crap like most F150s, but the damn thing won't blow up so I keep driving it. 236K...

I use 5W20 Synthetic oil; Pennzoil Platinum made from natural gas first or Valvoline pure synthetic...
Also I always use the Motorcraft filters, I have tried different filters, and they seam to make noise in the engine like a knock or valve tap, nothing bad or too loud. No issues when I use the Motorcraft so I stick with it now. ( I heard the motorcraft filter has a restrictor built into it to keep some oil on top of the engine but have never tried to prove or disprove it )

3 years of 5/20. Thought about 5/30 a few times, but my gauge numbers look good (30-32 hot idle), so I keep with 5/20.

I bought my truck with 99,600 miles on it. Ran great. changed the oil with 10-40 (with Lucas) as I didn't know what was in it. Now at 100,200 I have developed a slight knock off idle when warm. Today I drained it and changed the filter and dumped in 5-20. See what happens to the knock. Hopefully disappears. But I did vote for 5-20. As I read a lot on it and from my experience of a possible issue from the heavier oil.

5w30 here. On my second oil change. I got my truck at 110000 miles and could tell it had been poorly maintained. I don't kow what was in it but it had a Fram filter on it so I would say not the best of oil. It had a loud tick but new vct's quieted it down. I then switched it to mobile 1 5w30 and a motorcraft filter and it was much qiueter. On the same oil change O added half a qt of kroil and after 500 miles, from the oil breaking down I guess, the engine started to get loud again. Changed the oil again the other day with the same stuff and it is back to being barely noticeable. Maybe one day I will try 5w20 just to see.
