Default I hope you think about carb cleaning hole out

If they squealed all the way out what do you think it did to the new plugs . It can crack them and changes the heat range at the least . Many people have misfires later because of that .
Glad you got them out in one piece .

Thanks for that redfishtd. I did not use carb cleaner. I used Aerokroil penetrant and blew all the cylinders out before reinstalling the plugs. I've driven 200 miles so far with no issues but I'll continue to keep an eye on them and if misfires show up I'll pull everything back out and use the card cleaner. Cheers!

Default Newer style heads engine swap

I have a 2005 F-250 that I changed the plugs in a couple of years ago. I broke 5 of the 8 Motorcraft plugs taking them out. Lisle tool worked like a champ. Fast forward two years. I have a 2007 Expedition with what I thought was the same issue. Started to remove the plugs, and the previous owner had installed Champions. I ended up breaking a Champion in the number 3 cylinder.
3 weeks later, I had a extractor tool spun up at work, and I was able to extract the Champion lower piece. New plugs, new coils, and the truck still runs horrible. Find I have an intake leak. Order new intake. Realize my old intake appears to have heat damage. Check compression, and number 4 cylinder is flat. The intake follower in the very back of the head failed and I dropped a valve. This engine has 247K, already has the cam phaser knock at startup, and the engine is half disassembled anyways, so I figure, why mess around with fixing this one.

I removed a 5.4 from a 2008 F-250 with the new stubbier plugs with brown coil boots. No more broken plugs. Question is, has anybody ever swapped one of these engines with the new heads in place of the old engine? My Ford mechanic says the fuel mapping could be different, and I may be chasing my tail if I put the new engine in. It has a build date of 12-7-07. I don't believe it's a flex-fuel engine. With the Labor Day weekend coming up, what a perfect opportunity to get this thing swapped. Hopefully somebody has accomplished this with success.

Curious.... ^ kind of similar question but not entire engine... has anyone changed just the heads on a 04-07 engine with the new revised heads that take different plugs?

Default 5.4 triton spark plugs

Hey guys---- A new guy to the forum here, been lurking for a while and registered to the forum finally. I havnt done an intro yet but I will soon. As you all probably can tell I believe that I am another lucky nightmare spark plug owner but I am not sure. I have read a lot of this thread and I have a 2008 f-150 with an engine build date of 10-23-07. It also has the brown plug boots. I read on this thread that my build date and the brown boots lead me to believe that my motor should have the later plugs in it. Am I correct or am I wrong.

‘you are correct.. brown COP boots is a dead give away for revised heads.. replacement plugs for your motor are SP509’s.. I would also replace boots and springs.. I found a set on rockauto made by A/CDelco that where identical to the OEM ones I replaced.

Default Replaced Plugs. 5k miles later, replaced again

I have a 2005 Ford F150 Lariat 5.4L. I had plugs replaced at 93,743. OEM Motorcraft plugs were used. My mechanic & friend had no issue removing original plugs. 5k miles later (during a trip to SC from FL), the truck started shuttering and engine light came on. Error codes P0304, P0301, & P0308.
Upon extraction, these 3 plugs had the earth element missing. Completely burned off. Picture of 2 is below. What could be the reason for this? Could it be a defective batch of plugs?

Possibly improperly torqued in head allowing combustion gases to leak and slowly melting them.
