Not if you use it on the shield only, that is the point, to keep the shield from seizing in the head, not the threads.

Default Thanks to all posters in this thread!

As a proud first time truck owner, my 2007 XLT at 98k and I are now past our first spark plug change. I cannot say that I performed it, as many have proudly done. Being a super novice to working on vehicles (oil changing is about it) I took my time researching where to have this done, what plugs to use and where to buy them etc.

I found a local Ford dealer who would charge me just for the labor and I supplied the plugs. I went with the motorcraft SP-515's and truck is running great.

I paid 288 for the labor and 80 for the plugs from rockauto. I ran seafoam for two tanks and they didn't break any plugs.

I chose a dealer because during my research, they gave me the most confidence that they knew how to handle the breaks if they occurred.

I also let them do the scheduled trans and coolant. I could have had it done a bit cheaper 5-10% at my regular shop, but I gave the honest and fair Ford guy the business because he treated me right.

Next job is to fix the pesky backlight on the odometer! If anyone is a fan of a specific running board supplier, I'm looking!

Again, thanks to all the plug warriors who went before me.

Hampton, Virginia. Bowditch Ford in Newport News, VA.

I've also learned that dealers have figured out that impact wrenches are very successful at removing the plugs in mere minutes.

If you ask the dealer about it, they might fess up and charge you for "actual labor". My thinking is if more of us know about it and let others in on this prices may come down.

You can look it up on Youtube, there are a couple of videos of it.

Here's one of those video's.

Quite intriguing. I wonder what the risk of stripping the plug threads are though doing it that way. One of the points of the Ford TSB is to avoid stripping the threads on the plug and/or head.

just thought I'd chime in with everyone on my experience with the E3.70 plugs.

I've had them in the truck since June when I did my plugs (6 of 8 broke, ouch!).

anyway, I've put 11k on the truck since then with the E3.70's and have had absolutely no issues with them. gas mileage has been the exact same as it was with the factory plugs. I've had NO idling or missing problems like some say they have had, etc, etc.

working just fine for me. for the money I paid for them compared to other single body plugs available for our engines, I'll stick with these. best deal I found for them when I bought them was through summitracing, though they were backordered at the time and I had to wait a month to get them.

just fyi!

Should be doing my plugs some time in the next couple weeks, and an VERY thankful to have found this thread and all the great information in it.

I think I did pretty well on my parts purchase...I got 8 of the MC SP515 plugs, the Lisle 65600 tool, the socket tool with built-in extention, and a bunch of dielectric grease and anti-sieze packets all in a bundled auction from eBay. All parts are new and never used, and I paid $90 shipped to my door.

one road trip I had two cylinders misfiring, so we stopped into auto zone on the way home to purchase plugs for my 06..

and I remember the guy behind the counter laughing at me when I asked to borrow a wrench so I could swap the plugs out real quick in the parking lot. needless to say I had no idea how much of a **** show it is to replace them until he explained the whole 'two piece' plug.

Now that ****ing sucks. Ford needs to replace all our cylinder heads.
