Default 5.4l 3v - Reman or Rebuild?

Well I've come to the conclusion after some posts that my current engine has to go after the scoring on the cams and cam tower. I've got a quote from Powertrain of $3,300 and change for a reman engine. My other thought is to have the block rebuilt. A machine here in town has quoted $1K for everything including machining. I can also get both heads for around $1K a piece from Tasca. I already have the OEM timing set. The timing set is already included in reman so I though this might be the best route since I already bought it to redo the current engine.

Am I missing anything?

Thank you,

Ken

Is this a reputable shop? The benefit of spending more for a reman is the warranty that comes with them. For example, Ford remans have a 3 yr/unlimited mile warranty. That, to me, is worth the additional $$$.

650NutKase - From the reviews I've read it's the best one here in Springfield that I know of. But there aren't too many here though. I thought about the Ford reman but that was a little out of my budget and I was a little hesitant to do one from another company so I thought by buying the heads new from Tasca Ford, using the OEM timing kit I had already bought and using a local machine shop to rebuild my block was the best bang for my buck.

Thank you,

Ken

I recently had to decide reman or rebuild. I went with a ford reman for the piece of mind, I looked at the others out there, but with the ford reman if I am traveling and breakdown pretty much a ford dealer is not to far away. It was a little more than some other reman engines but it was worth it to me.

Coops064x4 - That's why I wanted the Ford reman but my budget didn't allow it plus I had already spent about $1,200 on the timing set, oil pump, gaskets and other items and I know I couldn't get all of my money back. And I needed to get this done fairly quick.

Thank you,

Ken

Quick would be re-man.. and you get a warranty like others have stated. Sell the timing kit.. it will get scooped up quick.

I went with a Ford reman in 2015 - 3yr/unlimited mile warranty, plus I got into the Ford Owners Advantage Rewards Program, which gives me discounts on both my truck & the wife's SUV. No regrets so far...

We can rebuild these engines here at our facility, but we typically specialize in high performance and upgraded components for customers looking to make big power. This is great for customers with power adders such as supercharged and turbocharged applications. We can do custom porting on the cylinder heads, custom ground camshafts, variable cam timing limiters, lockouts, etc.

We also deal with a company Accurate Engines that sells a ton of these 3 valve 5.4L re-manufactured engines for guys looking to just go factory replacement. They have the advantage of selling their engines with our patented Cam phaser noise repair solution already installed before shipping their engines out to customers. This allows their customers the advantage of never having to deal with the repeat dreaded cam phaser issues these 3 valve engines are well known for in the industry. For those customers in emissions states, the reman engines also come with our 50 state CARB E.O. approved custom tuning to ensure no issues with check engine lights or failing readiness tests from the VCT elimination as well. Feel free to give us a call , PM, or email for more information and we would be happy to help out!
