Default 5.4 hesitating at WOT

My 04 fx4 with a 5.4 has been acting weird lately with the pedal on the floor. It surges pretty badly. I have a k&n drop in filter and the gotts mod. Doesn't anyone else think I could be running lean with the gotts mod and the k&n filter without a tuner? It's not throwing any codes though. I took the negative battery cable off to reset the MAF and it make it a little better but didn't fix it. Should I maybe also clean the throttle body? Thanks for any help

I was having same problem with the exact same setup. This last weekend I pulled the gotts out and put the stock back in and WAM! Better throttle response and smoother idle. With some 3/4 throttle pulling onto the interstate today it seemed to pull harder.

Same issue here, I'm gonna put back the stock inlet and see if it helps as well, the only difference is I run a amsoil high flow, dry filter.

Yeah I'll try the stock inlet and see what it does. Maybe this can just be an excuse for me to get a gryphon though...

check the fuel pump. at WOT or going up a hill while accelerating mine would do what yours did. $500 fuel pump fixed it.

The gotts mod is only going to show benefit at WOT when your motor is up above 3000 rpm.

The Venturi on the stock inlet will accelerate the lower volume of air into the motor, increasing part throttle response.
Kind of like putting your finger over a garden hose to change the flow.
Cover more of the nozzle and the water speeds up and sprays further, but you get less water.
It's a trade off!
The stock programming on our trucks runs lean until WOT, so adding more air by means of the gotts mod isn't doing you any favors.
Buy a programmer!

I'll try putting the stock intake back on and see if it fixes it. It it possible that the fuel filter could have some crud in it and be restricting fuel flow at WOT? It does seem like a lean running issue to me though. I just need to figure out exactly what's causing it. I'll report back after I swap the intakes out tomorrow.

I put the stock intake back on and it runs great now. I still have the k&n drop in air filter installed. The throttle response is way better and there is no hesitation

I turned my edge programmer from towing to transmission only and it cured mine.. I think the combo of mods is making it run a little lean so I'm going to try gryphon custom tunes soon and hopefully they can dial everything in
