Default 5.4 to 5.0 engine swap

Hey Y'all! i was looking around at new engines for my truck and i found a pullout engine(2011 5.0 89,000 miles) and was wondering if i could fit this in the engine compartment of my 04 if so how would i, how much would it cost, how much work is involved? etc. Please let me know as this engine's auction only has 48 hours left, Thanks!

Fit is not a big issue.

Making it run is another story all together. It will not be plug and play. You would need the harness and ecu from the 5.0 and the know how to hook it all up. That or an aftermarket unit to run the motor.

Can it be done? Likely but the fact that you are asking tells me you cannot do it yourself.

The electronics would be a big enough job (PCM) but also, what about the transmission, transfer case? You really want the 2004-2008 body that bad with a 5.0 for the amount of work?

Ive thought a little about this over the past year . Its pretty common to throw a 5.0 coyote in any year mustang , my buddy and i have done it a few times along with a few LS swaps in hot rods. For hotrods they make stand alone engine harnesses but that just runs the engine. The 5.4 3 valve is totally different engine than the coyote 4 valve dohc as far as engine mgmt and wiring harness. A good thing is both bell housing and engine mounts are from the same family called Modular motors from ford . so physically they bolt up but who knows where stuff like the headers will end up .

With that being said im sure it can be done but trying to figure out a way to do it would be tough and getting all the electronics , heating and air cond, in the truck to work like factory would be hard as well .

One idea is to find a totally wrecked 2011 and up and swap everything over ecu, harness, tranny , cluster, and so on. This would be a monumental undertaking but do able .. some where on the internet is a guy doing it into a older pre 70's ford truck.

basically there is no direct swap .. Getting a coyote to work would be no problem but getting our tranny and so on to work along with it may be hard . Ford racing makes harnesses:

I am currently sourcing a donor truck. Hoping to swap out my tired 4.6/4R70E combo for a Coyote 5.0/6R80 combo.

I just got done repairing the 3rd blown out spark plug this weekend and was already considering the swap before the 3rd plug launched.

225k on the 4.6, 115k on the 4R70E.

I found a few potentials.. waiting to hear back from the salvage yards. I want the gauge cluster and steering column to go with the engine/trans. I'll make a build thread if this gets off the ground.

Default Bump

I wasn’t thinking about doing this in the near future but I’m fondling the idea of swapping out the 4.2 v6 in my truck and putting in a 5.0 modular engine with a manual transmission. My truck is currently manual and I would love to keep it that way. I just want more power. As far as engine harnesses go I would go with the holly efi. It would be a lot of money and work but it would be cool to have a one of a kind truck.

The 5.4 is superior, why would you guys even want a 5.0?
