5.4 3V - Found Thrust Washer In Oil Pan, Options?
Hey all,
I was in the process of redoing my entire timing set-up when I found one what I believe is one of the thrust washers in the oil pan alongside some of the timing guide. I was just wondering if this would be a part that I could replace or would this warrant replacing the engine?
Attached here is a photo of the dropped oil pan.
Thanks,

Is that a bunch of metal in the bottom of the pan too? If so, I'd heavily consider the new engine over just slapping timing components on. That metal came from something and likely (and more concerning) went through something. It's a gamble to just put in new chains and guides. Make sure you're confident in the engine health before putting money into it.

I'm not sure what causes the thrust washer so fail/eject themselves but I have read several post on this forum where guys replaced them only to have them eject again after a short period of time.
must be something that is either hard to repair correctly or once it happens the first time the damage is already irreparable.
I know fordtechmakuloco has a video about the subject but I don't recall the details.

Unplug the harness and leave the sensor in there. There's a little tab you need to push or pull gently to release it while wiggling the connection.

So when you mentioned the harness what do you mean?
Or do you mean these?
Is that the harness where I’ve already unclipped it? Also those metal pipes can I pry them back enough to get clearance to the bolts or do I need to undo those as well? Also it’s still stuck in there as you can see lol

Pretty sure he is saying unplug the sensor, you won’t have to remove actual sensor (ie just unplug it).

Yep, push down on the little tab on top of the connector sometimes it helps to push the connector IN while pushing the release tab and or wiggle the connector. then after it releases pull the connector off...
