4x4 low?

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone has had an issue with their 4 low engaging? When I turn the knob to 4hi, it engages no problem. When I turn it to 4low, there is no noise and the light on my dash does not illuminate. Please let me know if you guys have had a similar problem.

I have the same issue. You have shift-on-the-fly 4x4, correct? Mine has it as well. Strangely my Ram 1500 requires that you come to a full stop, shift into neutral, then shift from 4HI to 4LO and then shift back into drive. On my Ram I have the manual transfer case. Maybe Ford's electronic transfer case is different. I have tested my 4HI and it works well. Do you have access to the owner's manual? My vehicle never came with one when I purchased it.

Yes, I have the shift on the fly, but it does not work rather I'm moving or not. I have a manual, but it doesn't mention anything about this issue.

My 05 screw requires stop and in neutral before shifting to 4 low. 4 hi shift on the fly. Manual says it can be done at speeds up to 65 mph.

You have to stop, put the transmission in neutral, foot on the brake, the shift from four hi to four low. Same procedure to shift from lo back to high. Defiantly a pain in the ass.

X2....will not engage unless you take the steps above

I realize this, but even when I am standing still with tranny in neutral, it does not engage. It is quite annoying. Thanks for the feedback, keep it coming.

is your foot on the brake? I was on the beach and the sand had stopped me and I was trying to put it in 4x4 low without pressing the brake, needless to say i felt dumb when i finally got it by pressing the brake.
and just a recap:
1. Foot on break
2. Truck in neutral
3. Turn knob to 4L
4. hear engagement, light comes on
5. Put back into drive, truck will lurch forward, ready to go
6. Don't get stuck!

Not sure but I think you might need the e-brake on too while in neutral and pushing brake

My 2010 with shift on the fly requires shifting to neutral to go to 4low.
