05 f150 ext cab short box with 4.6L. when i put into 4x4 hi i can hear the transfer case engage, i go under the truck and the drive shaft is tight, both cv joints are tight. when i try to drive it doesnt engage front tires just grinds. in 2wd it runs fine and smooth. Also it clunks pretty hard sometimes when it goes into 4x4 even when moving like 5 km/h. couple weeks ago i put into 4 lo and it would not come out i tried everything i could for about an hour then gave up parked truck and it just popped out. any help would be greatley apprecitated

Does it go on over into 4x4 low ?

just went and tried and it goes into 4x4 lo no problems, no grinding sounds smooth like it should

The repairs are pretty easy for an average backyard mechanic. Solenoids are about $25 and IWEs are about $75 online (both are Ford only parts). If you mention that to your local Ford parts guy, he'll likely match the price.
