4 inch or 6 inch lift on my 2wd truck?

Default 4 inch or 6 inch lift on my 2wd truck?

Debating doing a 4" or 6" lift kit for my truck. It is a 2wd, but it does have an LSD rear diff, and it does well trail riding in Florida. I am mostly considering more lift due to flooding that we have dealt with due to hurricanes. There has been more than one time that I have had to rescue a friend that had a small car and couldn't leave the house after a storm. I currently have a 2 inch level up front with a 1 inch lift block in the rear, and I have 285/55/20's. Want at least a couple more inches of clearance. I know that I'll have to replace the diff fluid if I do drive through deep water either way, because the diff won't be any higher with the lift, other than the 1 inch I'll gain by going with 35's vs what I have now.

4" would keep my current max tire size which is 33x12.50x20. So the truck would only be mildly higher than she is now.

6" lift would put me 4"s higher than I am now, and allow me to add 35x12.50x20 tires. Although I likely wouldn't change tire size until the tire I have wear out, and I got them 2 months ago. Have at least a year left on them. I drive a lot for work.

Truck is currently 73 inches, or 6'1". The 4" lift would put me at 6'3". 6" lift would put me at 6'6"'s with 35's, which may be too tall for some parking structures. I believe most of the parking garages near me are around 6'7" max. I plan to look around to verify that. Although 2 of the parking garages I use regularly have areas on the 1st floor designated for service vehicles, and over height vehicles. I could always take the wife's small SUV if need be as well.

Price is $899.95 for the 4" kit, and $949.95 for the 6" kit. So the price isn't really a factor. Nor is installation difficulty since the kits are pretty much identical, one is just bigger. I could do this in my driveway with a friends help. 6" kit does come with a rear diff skid plate, the 4" kit does not.

Which would you guys get? Is 6"s too much for a 2wd truck?

Pretty sure you could fit 35’s on a 4” depending on your wheel set up.. I would go 6” for the $50 more.

Rough Country's website says 33's but they may not take offset into account. I currently have Cali Offroad Busted 20"x9" with 18 degrees of offset. How much offset would I need to go with 35's?

If I could do 35's, I would lean 4 inch kit, just so I could fit into garages still. And I'd be right around a Raptor's height.

Just like their 4wd kits the cross members and spindles are the same for the 4" and 6" kits, the difference in height comes from the strut spacer and the rear blocks. Have anyone close by that you could borrow some 35's and use a floor jack to simulate the height? I would probably get the 6" kit because of the nicer blocks. The advantage of the 4" kit is that it would be easier to add height to later, rather than lowering the 6" if you needed to.

That's a good idea. I do have a coupe of friends with lifted trucks and 35's. Why didn't I thing of that? They would rub like crazy on the ground, but I could put the truck up on stands and throw on the 35's just to get an idea of height.

On a side note. I checked the 2 parking garages I use downtown. 1 was 6'10" at the lowest point, and the other was 6'11" at it's lowest. The 6'10" one also has the service vehicle , over height vehicle parking area on the 1st floor with 15ish foot ceilings. So I'd be good with either lift kit in both garages.

After a lot of thinking, and speaking to the manufacturer, I have decided I'll go with the 4" lift. As ZSK stated above, the difference in the kits is the strut spacers, and the lift blocks for the rear. I just got new tires 4000 miles ago under road hazard warranty, so I won't be buying new tires for a while. I think the 6 inch kit would look really odd with 33's. But they would look fine with the 4" kit. Then when it is time to buy new tires, I can get the 35's, and buy the spacers and blocks at that time and go up to 6 inch if I want.

Please post some your thoughts once you get this installed. I've almost convinced myself to go with the eibach kit until I saw the 4" kit you posted. I haven't seen many reviews as I suppose most just opt for the 6" kit. I only have 32" tires (in the same boat....they are almost new with ~100 miles). For me, it's just not desiring such a high lift as my wife is short and has a hard time getting in as-is.

My mother complains every time she gets into my truck as is. She's 5'2".

The other thing that made helped me decide was going to the dealership. They had several Raptors (which have a 4" lift), and they had a Guy Harvey special edition 2wd truck that had a 6" lift and 35's. They had both parked up front side by side. (Should have gotten some pics) I liked the Raptors height much better. Especially for a 2wd. If I was in a 4wd, I'd do 6" in a heart beat.

If I go 4" and do 275/65/20 (34.1") next time I change tires, that'll put me at 3" higher than I am now. (285/55/20 is 32.3")That is plenty to clear the few obstacles I couldn't do the last time I went off road.
