I have a 4x4 stx and even with programmer and intake and exhaust on my 33's I noticed a big difference going with a bigger tire.

35's will for sure slow you down alot, id recomment 33-34 max.

Flyerstown I have the exact same truck you do and I have 3:55 gears so I'm betting you have the same. I would say 4:56 gears would do you well with 35" tires. I have 33's and have noticed a difference in power. If you went with 33" tires 4:10 gears would probably be ok.

Thanks for the help everyone. I'm gonna look into gears. See how much they cost and how difficult they are to install.

You'll need to do both front and rear diffs if you do gears, I'd recommend throwing in a locker or limited slip while you're doing it.

You'll still be fine driving the truck with 35s, it'll just be slower. If you're willing to drop the cash on gears, you might as well get the 35s on and see if you still want to spend the money.

Assuming you have the stock 235/75R17s now, you'll loose about 7% on your final drive ratio going to 33s, and another 7% going to 35s. 4.10s and 35s would put you right about where you are right now with your 31s and 3.55s.

Thanx for all the help guys. I'm gonna get the 35s and see how she feels. And if needed I'll change the gears. The only thing I haul is a sport bike, four wheeler, and small boat so I should be fine.

Default 4.6 w/35s

I have an 06 4x4 with the 4.6, 3" level, 35s, and stock 3:55 ls. There is a noticeable difference from takeoff (as stated), but it definitely still gets up and goes. I have beaten smaller cars off the line - not that its a racer - and have never regretted the move. I pull a 5000 pound trailer every day, aside from an almost always loaded bed, and rarely have reason to complain. With the load, trailer, and 35s, I still pass people getting onto the highway. Just do it.

Whats involved in adding a LS rear axle, as well as upgrading gears??
