Default Does driving in 4Hi hurt?

I need to know if I drive my truck a few hundred miles in 4Hi will it hurt it? I'm having IWE vacuum problems and I have to drive to NY and back this weekend, so as to not have the hubs grind, I figure I can drive in 4hi. Will this cause me any problems? Thanks.

On concrete? I wouldn't try it. You really need lose roads to use 4WD, or just drive in a straight line and I don't see that happening.

just undo your vaccum lines and leave the hubs locked in but dont have the transfer case engaged, might be better off cuz the transfer case isnt engaged and maybe the front wheels wont pull, just a thought....

the owners manual is 100% truthful when it says not to engage 4x4 on pavement.

i love how people think the 4x4 is gonna explode if you do, it's not, i wouldn't do it 400 miles, but a short distance i wouldn't think twice. i ust 4HI on the roads in the winter, some parts are bare and some are slushy, no issues.

it's gonna be loud as hell on the ride home, just a FYI, the IWE and hubs will be spinning

the only axle shaft u-joint (front end, 84 bronco 2) i've ever broken was the result of driving in 4x4 on dry pavement. live and learn. yeah, it was really loud too.

i've also seen (not mine), a transfer case crack open from the same.

slushy roads are a completely different scenario than dry pavement. as pressure builds in the driveline (due to all 4 tires wanting to travel a different speed, although the front and rear drivelines are locked together),
slushy roads enable that pressure to be relieved every several yards. this doesn't happen on dry pavement. if you are lucky, you'll get some tire "squall" to relieve the pressure. if not, something in your driveline will break

i wouldnt recommend it but if you do dont drive over 40mph you may get home with minimal damage.
