3rd Brake Light & Power Rear Window
2005 XLT - About 2 years ago I noticed that my power rear window stopped working (luckily it was in the closed position).
Last weekend I was washing my truck and noticed water on the rear seats. I'd heard about the 3rd brake light leak being so common in these trucks so I decided to pull off it off and check it out.
Saw that the lense had multiple cracks. Upon pulling it apart I discovered the brake bulb was blown. Replaced the bulb and used some clear RTV on the gasket & cracks and reinstalled temporarily. Searching for a good LED replacement at the moment.
Immediately noticed that my power rear window now works after changing the brake bulb. Anyone else experienced this?

Guess you didn't notice your cruise control wasn't working either... Hit up ebay for an ANZO third brake light replacement..

your thread made me check my own "work in progress" and I found moisture inside the lens cover...as soon as it get warm enough, I plan to remove it and find it it's the seal or the cover...or both...
I haven't noticed any water intrusion into the cab in the back seat area and no smells traceable to water leaks so perhaps I'll get this before it gets to that point...
thanks,
Bill

I noticed my 3rd brake light inoperable, pulled it apart to find the bulb blown and part of the brake light housing burnt a little bit (window and cruise worked fine). As it had been leaking, I replaced with a new housing (non LED) that supposedly had the updated thicker gasket. Much to my dismay, when i was vacuuming the truck I pulled up the plastic trim panels beneath the doors and found water beneath them, where the wires are run. It seems the new housing did not solve the leak, so for now, I drilled some small drain holes in the wire channels, so at least the water won't sit and make its own drain holes.

Ordered a Recon LED 3rd Brake Light from Stage 3 Motorsports. Gasket that came with the new light appears to be well made but perhaps I better use some RTV when I install it.
Was hoping the new light would be a cure for any leaks. Folded the rear seats up and did notice some light rust on the floor & seat hinges...
