Default 2200 rpm engine noise...

Hey ya'll. Anytime I get to about 2200 rpms, the engine begins to make this drone-like sound. If I keep it at 2200, it does it the whole time. Increase or decease the rpms, noise goes away. Any thoughts? Am I alone on this one? Mines an '06, 5.4L, btw.

Mine did it too when I had a volant cool air intake. I have since switch back to factory and it is fine now.

Vibration dampener sounds like it could be the fix. Thanks for that link, I tried a search, with no luck.

Have the exact thing here at the shop... after using chassis ears on EVERYTHING and then discovering it goes away in 4x4, we narrowed it down to the RF Hub assy. They use vacuum to lock in 4x4 and under the load, it leaked enough to cause it to try to engage, profusely. Blocked off the line, noise gone. Installed ne RF Hub assy, no noise.

try this part number: 5R3Z-5F240-A. It's the one for the mustangs, but I think they are all the same. I had to put mine middle rear to cure the vibration. I had to try several times, moving it a couple of inches until I found the right spot. If this is not it, just ask a Ford Dealer for the Exhaust Vibration Damper..they should be able to find it. I have tried, but can't find a picture.

Any update? I have the exact same issue. 2200 RPM's, medium load, every time. As soon as I give it more or less throttle to get off the 2200 mark, it goes away. I notice I can also barely hear it at about 2500 RPM too.

Some research suggests it could be the tensioner pulley.

I had a noise that sounds like your issue and it turned out to be the air filter resonator had slipped loose and the weather strip was completely worn out. Bought new weather-stripping at Home Depot and fixed it right away, best $3 I ever spent.
Good Luck

I can't find a resonator on my intake on my 5.4L. So I'm thinking my noise isn't the intake. I'm still thinking one of the pullies at this point.

open up the box where your air filter goes, look at the foam gasket that goes around the shelf that the air filter sits in and check that area. The foam kinda disintegrates and causes a noise at certain rpms. Also, the resonator is basically part of the air tube (on the outer edges) that comes from the air filter shelf and goes into the firewall if you have the stock setup.
