20O5 ac clutch relay
My clutch relay on air conditioner has been intermittent for some time . It finally called it quits . I had misdiagnosed it in the past and tried adding a little freon but I realised it was over charged and backed up .
Well I finally hunted down r202 in the engine compartment and to my dismay it was a little thing for such a heavy coil . The stamped ford number got me no where , the big box and ford dealer really didn't know what relay to get .5L3t-aa was not listed. No diagrams of the internals were anywhere .
So I hunted for look a like and guessed at ratings 20 amp 4 blade half an inch square by 3/4 inch tall . Came up with a g8va-1a4t-r by omron . Okay that number is search able and internals found . I had to prove it would work . The relay is not keyed and can be installed 2 ways .
They get around this by hooking components diagonally so it makes no difference . It is not polarity sensitive .
Only one pin is 12vdc with ignition off so that locates the contact to the clutch coil circuit . So I flatten the ends of a large paper clip and stick it between this pin and the diagonal pin and the clutch came on .
I also jumped the low pressure switch on accumulator with ignition on ac on and clutch did not come on .
Finally found a autozone relay to match . Its hot here in fl on jan 19th 2017 .
The duralast number was 20753 and was $29. You can get the g8va much cheaper online .

Ps-- the diode is only there to absorb the ac clutch kick back when de energized .

Stores even used google-- no luck .ford number didn't come up .
Dealer said bring in match with some aftermarket ones out of six or so .Dealer probably doesn't stock old factory number . The manufactures numbers are hidden . Now I try to look up duralast number online and it doesn't come up either. That"s why I listed the omron number ,it is available .
If I lived up north I would have bought it online .To be fair the little thing did last 10 years of heavy cycles .If it was july here it would even be more important. I may buy one for backup .
