Default 20k miles on a set of wheel hubs?

What kind of life span should I be expecting from a set of front wheel bearing assemblies on my wife's 04 FX4 SCREW? I just replaced them back in August and she's put about 20k miles on since I replaced them and they're worn out already. Any thoughts as to if this is premature failure, normal for car quest parts, or do I just need to take this thing out in the woods and set it on fire?

Wheel bearings are a sob on these trucks. Had an 04 for a total of 55,000 miles, did driver side once, passages side twice. I now have an 07. It has 90k on it now and i just replaced both. I have a 6 inch lift, 20 inch wheels and 35 inch tires too though, which contribute more than i wish they did. Is your wifes truck stock?

If any one other than a trusted machine shop pressed them in, then thats the problem. Most wheel bearings are damaged upon installation and its not the wheel bearing, but the install.

The wheel bearing/hub assembly's on the 4x4 trucks do not need to be pressed in. It's an entire unit. Most parts stores will have a cheap option and a more expensive option. Cheapies don't last that long. Look for oem, timken, moog or something comparable. Amazon actually has great prices for the timken hub assembly's compared to the parts stores. Check rock auto as well.

Ya the whole hub assembly is really easy to replace. But it is a pain when they go out. Rock auto is where i got mine.

I got car quest's "premium" hub assemblies, and upon further research, the premiums are actually Moog. the only modification on the truck is a 3" leveling kit. ball joints have been recently replaced and all other components are in working order and alignment is good. factory wheels and stock size tires. the store is going to replace the bearings under warranty, but having to replace these things every 9 months is rather annoying.

Ya, usually the worst is due to lifts or major binding on the front end which creates great wear on the components on the front end. A negative offset can kill you all by itself. But being stock with just a level is rough to change that frequent, especially if the premium is moog.

Good bearings should go 100k. Try OEM or look for timken
