If you read this thread you will see more people are still running their original phasers than those who have fixed it. https://www.f150forum.com/f4/poll-ho...hasers-350952/
Seems like you just want to complain about this truck and pump up Chevys as you have done in the other thread on here. Almost ALL forums are filled with problems no matter the brand, engine, or..... color!
The 5.4 is a VERY good engine if you take care of it. Basic maintenance is all it takes. If you truly think Chevy and Dodge don't have problems then you got your blinders on.

Your tick is most likely the passenger side exhaust manifold leaking.. very common problem..being that you bought an 08.. you need to check the engine build date.. not the truck build date and if the motor was built after 10/07 you will have the up-date heads which will help out .. a real quick way to tell is you will have brown colored COP boots vice black. The 5.4 will run forever with proper maintenance and using the correct oil and filters..did you get any maintenance history with your new 08 ? What's your mileage now ? You didn't hear the tick when you test drove it ?

Tick could be a lot of things... exhaust manifold, phaser, loose spark plug, etc. Like anything, scheduled maintenance helps out with your longevity. Yes, we have to go through some repairs occasionally, but there's a lot running on original stuff well past the 250K mark... Always remember, most people that aren't having issues aren't going to be posting about it on forum boards.
I agree the 3V is a good motor as long as you take the time to inform yourself of the know issues and how to avoid/rectify them. Every manufacturer has their quirks and GM is known for quite a few as well... Water pumps, transmissions, excessive oil consumption... I could go on, but you get the point.
Enjoy your purchase and take care of her!

You may just be hearing the injectors, which is often referred to as "typewriter noise" because that's what it sounds like. You'll notice it most when next to a wall, such as in a drive-through.

So milage now is a 99k. I didnt notice the tick during the test drive you have to really listen to hear it. How do i check the engine manufactur date. The only history that came with it was the car fax those dont show oil changes vut it did so basic maintainenece like brakes rotors calipers a/c check stuff like that.
Im not pumping up any brand, 200k miles with no major engine work has always been standard for me so i cant "pump" up a brand when i felt like it was just doing its job.

Engine is toast take a listen
I bought this thing on Saturday and after letting it run for a half hour to 45 minutes it was quiet as a church mouse now this is the noise it makes no matter the engine temp very disappointing that a truck engine can't last 100k

So i cant hear that noise from the cab and its hard to hear with the hood closed. So its not too loud. Maybe the begining stages of cam failure? If I don't think these cam phasers now how long do you guys think I have until the motor fails?

Did you buy it from a dealer? In most states, you have three days to cancel a contract.
