Default 2008 Ford F150 misfiring

My pick up is starting to misfire, especially when I am climbing up hills or accelerating around corners. The guy at AutoZone couldn't read the codes because the "check engine" light only comes on periodically when the truck is misfiring. He thought it might be the fuel pump. Suggestions?

Try another store or another guy. Any time the check engine light comes on, it will store the code. I doubt your fuel pump is the culprit here if you said you’ve seen the CEL flashing. I would encourage you to at least change your fuel filter if it’s been a while though.

How about some service history? What motor? Miles? Last tune up? Any certain driving styles leading up to symptoms?

A flashing CEL is a classic sign of a misfire and may not store a DTC. When was the last plug/COP/Boots and springs ?

COPs don't go bad that often. I had the exact problem and new plugs eliminated the misfire.

I had a shop do the cam phaser repair for me.
Since then #8 plug drops out of firing sequence from time to time. When it happens, I have to get out, open the hood and press the connector back onto the plug. Then it's fine for a long while.

techrep mentions plug/COP/boots and springs. A new one of these for my #8 plug may cure my issue.

Good Luck, L.M.

Default connector on plug do you mean connector on cop

If so maybe locking tab on connector bad on number 8 ,replace it, clean all the connections on cop with contact cleaner burnish high volts tab on cop .

I had this problem and I had a misfire in cylinder 3. I had all plugs changed and the coil pack replaced and all is well. The mechanic said water was getting down there and he showed me the plug and the coil pack were pretty corroded. Not sure how water was getting down there, but 115,000 miles and the plugs were never changed. In my defense I bought the truck with 98,000 miles. I would have figured the dealership I bought the truck would have switched them out.
