Dry or oiled filters?
Im thinking of getting a cai soon and am not sure which type of filter I should get with it. I guess they now have "high performance" dry filters and the wet or oiled filters. I assume the dry ones have no risk of damaging you maf sensor like there would be with over oiling the other type. Are they reusable? What are the recomendations?
BTW, Im leaning towards and S&B. Thanks

Ive had oil fiilters in past on an explorer and 7.3 powerstroke. I dont mind cleaning them and havent had an issue yet but the dry filters are becoming more popular than before.

I have the Airaid CAI with their dry filter.
Why?
1. No hassle with oil
2. no worry about over oiling and causing sensor damage or air flow restriction
3. easy cleanup with simple green

So there is the plus about not having to oil, but do these dry filters really do a good job on keeping crap out of your engine?

Yes they do an excellent job at keeping the air super clean as well as providing more airflow usually due to more filter surface area. However, a quality paper element like a WIX will flow very good (more then you need) when brand new but decrease rapidly when it gets dirty. Synthetic dry filters trap dirt and allow air flow to move around the dirt (whole premise of a oiled or dry synthetic filter) so it out flows quality paper filters by a factor of n . Plus dry synthetic filters can be cleaned which means you have a filter for life.
