2007-5.4L transmission bearing noise

Have a 2007 F150, 5.4L with 38,000 miles. Recently I started hearing the whining noise that is commonly associated with the #9 bearing failing. The truck drives and shifts fine and the noise disappears in overdrive and under 25mph. I am planning to get this resolved soon, and wondering about a few things.

1. Any way of knowing how long the transmission will last
2. Is there any signs prior to the bearing failing (additional to the whine)
3. After bearing failure, what is the chances the truck will still be operational to get home or to the shop

I have received estimates from $1,800 to $4,500 for the transmission repair/replace. I am trying to get a few more miles before spending that much if possible.

Here is the YouTube link of a different truck with same noise mine is making.

Thanks for your input and happy holidays!

Find a good transmission shop that will go in and just fix whats wrong. I had a similar issue with a low mileage Tacoma (but out of warranty of course) that had a whine in 3rd and 4th. It was a bad bearing and a pitted shaft. The rest of the trans was fine. Total cost was a little under $1000. I put another 100,000 mi. on that truck without another issue. I would fix it as soon as you reasonably can because as the condition degrades its just going to damage itself worse.

Took it to the shop. $150 for them to tell me it was a noise in the transmission, and they suspect a bearing....I told them that! Now they are doing a service to see if any shavings are in the fluid.

Are you actually paying them to check for shavings? I sure as hell hope not because you can do a pan drop for free!

No, they did a service on the truck also. Did find some shavings, nothing too out of the ordinary.
