Default 2006 STX to FX4 swap

Hey all, I’ve been out junkyard shopping for new-old parts lately and came across a minty 2006 fx4 I wasn’t looking for anything for my 06 stx but couldn’t help but thinking how nice that fx4 cluster would look in my truck and finally having a tech would be amazing. Now I called a bud at Ford he said the truck wouldn’t start if I had swapped cluster unless I’d got it reprogrammed anyone know if that’s true? Seems like a few of you who have done it at otherwise. Also im really into the two tone black and grey dash in the fx4 does the passenger airbag come separate from the panel? What other things might I look at snagging from the fx4?

Itll start. That’s not true.

If the FX4 has manual AC, it’ll be plug n play. If the FX4 has auto climate control, it will not work with your truck. Well, it will work with your truck, but your AC will no longer function.

I did a cluster swap in my truck. Been there.

I swapped an FX4 into my XLT. All that I saw was it added "Theater lighting". The FX4 cluster is a tiny bit different in the bottom corners, but you wouldn't notice it if I didn't point it out.

It went it just fine everything seems to work however the “door dinger” won’t go off same with the seatbelt alarm, the truck no longer alarms me if I’ve left the lights on and if the keys are in the ignition.

It won't turn off, or it won't turn on? The issue with fitment is the bottom corners. The FX4 has a more rounded bottom corner than the XLT or STX.

It also seems that you don't have a compass, or a thermometer.

My bad it won’t go off as in the alarms will not sound (turn on) and correct I have no compass or thermometer

My 08 XL has always had theater lighting when it dims, it’s not an FX4 thing. Did you add a newer cluster to an older truck?

I added the FX4 cluster to my 05 XLT without any issues what so ever. All dingers work, theater lighting works, no warning lights, compass and temp works. You may try unplugging the cluster and plugs out with keyboard cleaner. Dust and dirt in the plugs can give you fits.

It seems that 06-08 trucks act differently than the older ones. I too lost any door chime, key in ignition, lights on, etc chimes. I’ve just lived with it for a few years.
