2006 Flexplate Replacement
One would think that with a new timing set, fuel injectors, oil pump, and a lot of other things, I'd have the hottest truck around. But, I've been given another reminder, that’s not the case at all.
Occasionally, I’ve heard a loud grinding when I turn the key, but the engine starts after a couple of tries. I replaced the starter and added supplemental wiring, but the grinding persisted. Upon inspection of the flexplate, some teeth have been filed down, and it needs to be replaced.
The way I understand it, I will have to remove the driveshaft, and slide the transmission back using a transmission jack. But, I’m unsure of what to expect other than that.
Can anyone provide any other information? What obstacles should I anticipate? Is this a one person job?
I’d like to note that I drive a Lincoln Navigator with a ZF 6-speed transmission, but I’m a member of this forum because no other forum has more information about the 5.4 engine. And most importantly, no other forum has members as kind and generous as you all have been.
Thanks a lot.
