Possibly your issue. Why are you putting it in neutral?

went to ford bought the replacement solenoid. I was always use to using neutral.. I read over the manual and I now tried to drive 20ish MPH drop it in 4H now the issue I have is it sounds like it's grinding. then when i stop it kinda clunks. but the half shafts aren't spinning and it's still in 2WD

ill try to get a video of the sound it's a weird screeching\grinding

That is a great thread. Until you get it fixed, switch it to 4wd when the grinding starts and the noise will stop.
I had the exact same issue. Replaced the IWE, and all was well.

I changed the IWE solenoid. I dont want to throw parts at it till i know for sure. otherwise it's going to get really expensive

Without parts, it won't get any better. Go read all of the IWE threads, then you will see why you need to replace them.

What he is calling the IWE, is the IWE actuator( what you posted a link to). Do get a vacuum pump/guage. The actuator is probably shot, but you need to figure out why. If everything checks out now, then it should be safe to assume the solenoid was faulty. Replace the actuators and enjoy the 4wd. BTW, the vacuum pump/guage will be useful on other projects too. I use the Mighty Vac.
