2006 F150 How to replace exhaust valve spring 5.4L 3v
#11
Yes, thank you! Good idea with the crankshaft pulley bolt holes. I've got the adapter made to pressurize the cylinder. Now to figure out how to wedge the chain with the cover on? And how I'm going to compress the spring to install it? Oh and I need the New spring. Thank you again for the help!

Sorry for the delay in posting! It is fixed. Made adapter using old spark plug to pressurize cylinder, ratchet straps crankshaft in position. Used heater hose to wedge between timing chain. Made tool to compress and replace spring.

You really need to use some pics to help someone for the future .
Good to see you get out of this mess . Try to help knowledge base. How many pounds did you use . did you use a schrader valve on welded old plug or what .There is a cheap wedge tool to hold chain . What kind of valve tool did you make .

I have pics of the tools I used, but how do I put them on here! Now I do have a wedge tool. I didn't at the time. I used one of the old Spark plugs, a brass fitting, and an air hose connector to make it screw into the spark plug hole and connect the air hose.

What I've made for a few engines is to take an old spark plug, smash the porceline and electrode out of it, and weld and air line chuck to the body of the plug. Then, thread into the head, turn the regulator down to 30 psi, attach an air line, and turn on the compressor. This only works if both valves are shut, obviously, and best at TDC (also preventing a valve from dropping to far in worst case scenario). Never did it to the Ford, but have on GMs and a Studebaker.
