If you're finding info on the internet about the 4.2 having a faulty intake gasket and hydolock issues, that's for 97-early 98 only. They're not prone to failure after that. But again, at 300k, anything can fail.
Yeah, but the fact that even the upgraded gasket failed, and then the engine bent a rod. Before I joined the Ford community, I had never heard of engines bending rods when hydrolocked. I'm not trying to say the engine is unreliable because it failed at 300k, just that it seems that even with the upgraded versions, that intake gasket is still a weak point in the design.

Yours and the other guy who posted right around the same time are the only ones I've read about on the newer 4.2.

Ived owned my truck with the 4.2 since new in 2008 and have been on the forums since then (was originally on another f150 forum for years until it turned into a ghost town.)

Either way, I'd say your truck getting to just about 300k miles (even though it failed) means it's a really solid engine. Especially since it was a work truck and likely driven by many who didn't care about it. Just look at all the issues the 5.4 V8 that were also in these trucks can have.

That said, I know you have an issue with your truck and would like to get it working again. Im not trying to dumb down the issue at all, I was just speaking about reliability.

Sorry if I am side tracking from your post!

Its all good, I dont know how active this forum is, but it seems like I might not be able to find the help I'm looking for here. Maybe I'll stop in at the stealership and talk with some of the guys in the shop/parts counter

Question OP you don't say the source of the hydro lock, Was it coolant, fuel or did it ingest water while running? Have you examined the internal's to check for damage?
