Default 2006 F 150 long cranking??

Hey everyone I have a 2006 Lariat with 5.4. It has started long cranking recently. Then when it busts off it idles rough for a few seconds and then everything is fine. I changed the plugs and fuel filter and that didnt help. Also theres no code showing up either. I've got 222000 miles on it. Anyone have an ideas on what to check next?

I haven't done a lot. Other than regular scheduled maintenance I've replaced the starter and alternator. Done the plugs 4 times and coil packs 3 times. Thats basically it as for as the engine goes. It's been a solid truck!

Is this happening every start? Are you letting the fuel pump prime the system before you try and start it?

It's not happening every time. Seems like it does it worst when the truck has been sitting over night or for a while. Yes i am letting fuel pump prime the system. It cranks fine when u crank it back to back to back. Could it be a leaking injector?

Does it do it more after setting over night or longer periods of time? If so next time it's set over night turn the key off and on a few times to letting the pump prime each time to bring up the fuel pressure. If you do this and it starts immediately then I would suspect the fuel pressure regulator is starting to go and letting the fuel pressure bleed off every after sitting for a while. This would explain cranking back to back with no issues.

I have tried turning the key on and off letting the pump prime it up. Sometimes it will fire right up and then sometimes it will still long crank and spit and spudder once it fires off. I may replace the fuel pressure regulator and start there.

Default there is no fuel press reg

Its a on demand system no return line to tank . You need to inspect your fpdm on rear axle its a high failure item . It controls all the fuel, high corrosion area ,water intrusion flaky symptoms.. Lay your fuel rails out on dry newspaper key on none should leak .200k is a lot for injectors . Congrats for 220 k without much trouble.

Yeah your right there is no fuel pressure regulator. OK I will check fpdm. Didn't know about that. Sounds like you got ur truck ready! I'm keeping my 06 for hunting and fishing and buying a new 2019 this fall when the 2020's come out. Hopefully it wll be a lot of good rebates out there. Thanks for your help. I at least have a plan now to where to begin!

Default Curious

Did anyone in here or the guy who originally post this ever figure out what the issue was? My truck is doing the same exact thing and have been trying to figure this issue out for a little while. When truck sits for extended period of time it has a long crank for about 6 seconds and then when it fires up it sputters and then idles out just fine and never has any issues after that. 2006 f150 4x4 5.4l 230k miles
