2006 F-150 Lariat 2WD 5.4
Ford dealer replaced the high pressure power steering hose on my 2006 F-150 Lariat 2WD 5.4 with a hose that does not have the pressure sensor. Now my truck sets a P0553 code. The dealer insists that Ford has done away with the sensor and the fact that the sensor is no longer in the circuit is not the reason for the trouble code. They did not re-flash the PCM when the hose was replaced either. Has anybody out there run into this issue?
I'm still fighting with the dealer over this.

Thanks Montana Mark,
What I really want to confirm is that the dealer is full of s___. That the code is being set because the pressure sensor is not in the system and the PCM is still looking for a signal from itT

That code is for that switch. I don't see how it could be anything else.

Just a thought but if there is no switch in pipe any more then can you just short the 2 wires in the plug together to make the pcm think it has pressure then the code will clear. I know it is not ideal but what else can be done. I have new pipes on order for mine and am in the UK and i guess i will have the same problem

Hey Mark,
You're suggestion of bypassing the switch might work if the pressure sensor is simply a normally normally open switch. Then, by putting a jumper between the two posts in the connector would allow the PCM to think that all is ok. However, I believe that the sensor is actually a potentiometer that sends a varying signal to the PCM. If the PCM doesnt get a signal between certain values ( either too high or too low ) then it sets a trouble code. The purpose of this sensor is to increase engine RPM based on the need of the power steering pump. That being said, in your case, you can obtain a replacement hose that accepts the sensor as aftermarket parts stores still offer it. Ford is the only manufacturer that has done away with it to my knowledge.
Hope this helps.

Mark,
The Motorcraft part number for the hose is 8L3Z3A719G. This is the hose that Ford says replaces the original hose. This hose does not have the sensor in it. The dealer that installed this hose on my truck has agreed to replace this hose with an aftermarket hose that accepts the sensor, putting the truck back to original. They still insist that the truck does not need the sensor and will not set a code without it. If your replacement hose doesn't have the sensor, please let me know if your truck sets a P0553 code without the sensor.
Thanks
