2006 5.4 triton cam phasers
I know this topic has been covered ad nauseam, but I just wanted to get some input. I just purchased a 2006 Ford F150 with the 5.4 Triton engine, 100,000 miles, extended cab, 4-wheel drive. It is an excellent condition and was very well maintained by the one previous owner. After reading all of the horror stories about the cam phasers and timing issues, I was wondering your thoughts on this. At this time the truck starts, runs, and drives perfectly. No noises or shaking or any issues whatsoever. Do you think I should consider replacing cam phasers and all the timing components? Or should I just keep running it until a problem develops? I plan on putting quite a few miles on this truck, and will keep it for a while as it is in perfect condition.

If it ain't broke/breaking, don't fix it

Just to put it into perspective, OP.
I have almost 243,000 on original timing components

Plan on replacing said items, but wait for symptoms (unless you're an overly ambitious preventive maintainer, like myself).

Just make sure to listen good on the first cold start of the day for a rattle that only lasts a couple seconds. That is the tensioners bleeding down overnight and that rattle is the chain slapping around. That’s the one that everyone likes to ignore figuring it’s just normal cold engine noise and it will lead to low oil pressure and eventually the hot idle phaser knock once the pin inside it wears.

Thanks for the input. I will keep my eyes and ears open! So far I have changed all of the fluids and replaced the factory 20" wheels with 18" ford factory rims and michelin tires that I bought for $900. They were new take-offs from a 2018 f150. I got them from Texas Tire, they are the same width and rolling diameter of the original tires, but ride and handle much better. The truck came with a flowmaster dual exhaust and I added a cold air intake. I have put 2000 miles on so far and am averaging 16.5 mpg with no oil consumption. I really love the looks and ride.
