2005 O/D light flashing.....
Hi all,
I have a 2005 F150 4.6, 102k miles 4x4 and had an issue yesterday.
I backed out of driveway and O/D light started flashing, said 'Trans Failure' where mileage is.
Went about 100yds to stop sign, shut truck off, restarted and no more issues.
I was not in 4x4 , but it was slick out. I tried pushing O/D button on/off, no help, didn't clear it.
Like I said, 1st time its happened and wonder if its a prelude to future issues.?
I have only had the truck about 10 months. But have put 17k miles on it.
Southern Maine if that means anything.
Thanks all, Bob

I had the same thing happen to me when it was cold out and the truck wasnt warm.. I turned the truck off then back on and the message was gone. Hasnt happened to me since. I was in a parking garage and took a sharp corner when it happened.

Torque Converter Clutch slippage/erratic (P0741) or no torque converter clutch operation. The PCM has detected an excessive amount of slippage during normal vehicle operation. OR (P0758) SSB solenoid fails to produce voltage drop across shift solenoid "B" coil when energized.
A couple of notable 'curve *****' that can still fall squarely within the above trouble code description to throw you a curve (DON'T go replace the TC yet). PCM reads and subtracts TSS (turban shaft speed) from RPM to determine Torque Convertor Slip. [TSS sensor could be faulty/flaky]. Transmission shift strategy involves 'calculating' engine load - which is derived from air ingested as read by MAF sensor (MAF could be out of calibration / bad / flaky - if other symptoms are present that point that direction). Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid could be sticky - not engaging fully. Trans fluid level over filled resulting in foaming. Fluid / Filter needing changing with flush could result in shift / TCC solenoids not function smoothly.
EDIT:
On further thought - while the MAF does play a part in things - assuming the other possibilities are removed, the MAF would be far more likely to cause a slow or harsh shift than it would an indication of over slippage.
