2005 FX4 Engine tick

I have been have a lot of issues with my 2005 FX4 F-150. First I was driving and it stalled out on me in the middle of the interstate, so I towed it back to the shop and charged the battery and it just ran rough, gave me the codes P0020, P0345, P0349, and P0356. And after the engine would get up to normal temperature it would throw the check gauges code and the oil pressure would drop. I changed out the driver side cam phaser, driver side VCT solenoid, and I tried using thicker oil(10w-30, which made a better difference, but it still runs rough as hell).

I'm all out of ideas, can anybody help??? here is a link to youtube video I made so you can hear what it sounds like

From hearing that it just died on the interstate I was thinking that it could be your fpdm those are notorious for going bad . That could solve the rough idle . But it almost sounds like to me that the timing is off not sure if you jumped a tooth when you put the cam phaser in . I would definitely check your fpdm first and replace it regardless.

I'll try that out and let you know how it goes, and I hear about a tooth skipping on the cam all the time, I can turn it all the way around one full revolution without a problem, so what does that mean exactly???

If your truck died and you had to charge the battery to get it running again, you have an obvious electrical problem. Did you load test the alternator?

Krazzie Dave 08-19-2015 10:22 AM

No I was an idiot and killed the battery because I tried to start it over and over, I changed the battery and the alternator tested good

Martian 08-19-2015 10:26 AM

Oh. Then I agree, possible bad timing or FPDM. Start with the FPDM.

Chain tensioners are broke. Low oil pressure

Spfridge 08-19-2015 05:59 PM

Also the plastic chain guides break and plug the oil pickup tube.

Krazzie Dave 08-21-2015 10:14 AM

I changed the FPDM and it didn't do anything at all

Krazzie Dave 08-21-2015 10:15 AM

Thanks for the tip, ill try that out
