Sounds like a bad voltage regulator in the new alt.. take it back and have the battery checked like Redfish said.

thanks guys for all the help ill definitely will try to get a new battery with in the next month or so and when i get time ill test it before getting one. school is just eating up all my time. is there a way to test the alternator at home?

Sure, I can bring my $1000 battery/starter/alternator tester home and check my truck in the driveway!

I agree, have the battery load tested first.

Alright guys so i replaced the battery last night and also cleaned the terminals. also the whining noise i thought was the alternator was the tensioner pulley so i fixed that. the headlights dont flash anymore but the dash lights still pulse under acceleration. i can also hear a loud spinning/grinding noise under the hood followed by a click on the passenger side and it goes away but the lights still pulse and the noise goes on and off. any thoughts???
