Hi, this is my first post since joining this forum. I'm hoping some of the experts on here could help me out.

ive got a 2005 f150 lariat 5.4 crew. I went out to start it this morning and it began to turn over and then just stopped. I tried to start it again and it does nothing. No dash lights or anything. The headlights, interior lights and key fob work and seem normal. But the ignition switch is completely unresponsive, it does not even chime with the key in the switch and the door open. turning the key to any position produces no response of any kind, no radio, can't shift the transmission out of park. The key turns free and feels normal but nothing happens at all.

The truck has been a great truck with only minor fixes and I've had it for 6 years and now has a 163k miles. I just put a new battery in 6 months ago. I have fixed a few cars and trucks over the years. I thought it might be the ignition switch but have never seen one go completely unresponsive like this with no warning.

Has anyone had an ignition switch fail this way or know what else I can check?

Start at the battery and move towards the switch. I would bet either a connection or fuse.

Sounds like neutral safety switch to me but haven't heard of this problem for our year of trucks too often.

Try jumping the truck off of another vehicle to see if your battery is dead.

Not common but is always a chance. Try to start it in neutral and see if that works.

I tried the jump off yesterday but no luck. I took off the other two leads off the positive cable at the battery and cleaned those but nothing yet. I'm going to try tracing those down today. It just acts like half the electrical system is dead. I feel like it could be a cable too. Will post back what I find. Thanks

So, I pulled the pcm relay and it had voltage. I swapped that relay with the fog lamp relay. I also checked the two pcm fuses and they are both good. Still nothing. I called a automotive electrical repair shop and they did not have any different suggestions but said they would diagnose for $80 an hour. Sounds high.

Tonight I'm going to see if there's voltage at the steering column. If so, I lean toward it being the ignition switch but idk.

Try jumping the solenoid on the starter. If that dont work then try jumping directly from the battery to the starter. If that makes the starter spin the your problem is somewhere in between. If it doesn't spin doing that then the problem is either the battery or the starter.
