Default shifter issue

i have a 04 f150 fx4 5.4 supercab, shifter is in the center console and lately and sparatically its been happening more and more, usually when you hit the break you can feel a click in the shifter disengaging the lock on it, well not it takes 20-30 tries before it works right, anyone else have this problem and if so know how to fix it

you need a new solenoid for the shifter

Instead of running out and buying one you could try to clean things up a bit. Take it apart and clean it up with a blow gun or air in a can.

where is the solenoid located? near the brake? under the shifter? im sure its dirty maybe thats it, or if its going out how much is a new one?

pop off the top of the console and you will see a white tab, put your foot on the brake and you will see it go down when your foot is on the brake.

just buy a new one, you can't clean them up that i know of. if it's not working everytime, it's time for a new one.

do you have a part/model number? im sure i can find it cheaper online, ford always rapes you in pricing

i don't recommend tasca, www.getfordparts.com, however they are usually the cheapest. i think it's 56 bucks plus shipping from them
