I put the truck in park, I put it in neutral, or drive, I turn the 4 wheel drive switch to 4H the light comes on, on the dash but does not engage the wheels. The 4L light does not even come on anymore. Also I tried on the road and not in the mud. Not sure what is going on. Anyone have any ideas what could be stopping it from kicking into 4wheel drive.

It could be a vacuum problem? If it was I would assume there would be other red flags too, not just 4x4 not working. Do they grind at all in 4x2 or 4x4? That would be vacuum. If they dont grind, but also DO NOT engage I would take the front apart and make sure the hubs are in good shape? Could be a few things, try to eliminate the possibilities one by one. Let me know if you find anything else that could be related.

hmm.. does it make that typical clicking sound that you usually hear.. i know right after i bought mine the 4x4 wouldnt engage at all. the light didnt even come up on the dash. since i had just purchased it, there was a small warranty that covered the repair so i cant tell you how much it cost to get fixed.. but it took them about three days to diagnose if i remember correctly. it ended up being a bad solenoid i think.... my brother however, just took his in with a 4x4 problem and as it turns out, there was a bad solenoid and the hubs were gone. about a $700 repair .. good luck buddy. keep us updated if you figure out the problem
