Default 2004 F150 XLT 5.4 vibration at high speeds

starting at about 50 mph, the truck begins to vibrate. i think it might be a drive shaft. If i stop the truck, back up and go again, the problem goes away. This is very intermittent problem but i am not sure what it is. its not a brake/rotor issue. Anyone experience anything similar? Thanks - Cooter

Start small. Have you had tire balance checked?

Good point, but I haven't. I guess I didn't think the tires would be out of balance if the problem was only intermittent. For example, i took a trip and drove 650 miles without any vibration. On a different day, i drove 85 and on the way back the vibration and "chatter" began. I came to a stop, backed up 50' and went forward and the vibration was gone.

I serviced the rear end on 12-31-2019 or about 400 miles ago and haven't noticed the vibration reoccur. During the gear lubricant change, the fluids looked pretty good but it seemed like the fluid levels were low. Until the vibration comes back, the problem may be solved.
