2004 f150 xl 4.6
god afternoon ford peeps, i have a 2004 4.6'er, i just had the engine replaced at 169K, after it had been installed, the truck would turn on just i would hear rattling coming from under the engine, my mechanic told me it was the cat converters that were clogged and would have to get them replaced. the thing is that the truck has a rich fuel smell coming from the exhaust. today i went to get my cat converters replaced with new ones, i get a call back from the muffler shop dispatcher, tells me something else is wrong with the truck. basically the truck wont stay on after a few minutes then it stalls, black smoke coming from exhaust and rich fuel smell. any advice or knowledge that could be shared i would appreciate that thank you all....

I would look at the injectors...any DTC’s ?

+1 on injectors... check codes and test your fuel pressure
