Default 2004 F150 Random starting issue

I have a 2004 Fx4 5.4, 112000 miles. I am having a very strange problem. Every now and then it will not start on the first try, It has to turn over for a few seconds before it will start. Once it finally starts the idle will stumble a bit then clear up. I also get a very strong smell of fuel after it does it, almost like its flooded. It usually only does it every other day or so. Doesn't seem to be tied to temperature or anything. I've seen where Crank position sensor can sometimes cause starting issue. Any ideas?

Mine was doing the same. I also have 112k on my 2004, changed the plugs and all was good after that.

Plugs were changed at 90k, along with the coils. I would think bad plugs would cause slow starting every time.

Maybe you have trash in your fuel lines at the injectors? Have you changed your fuel filter lately?

Check your FPDM (fuel pump driver module). It's under the truck above the spare tire... There is a revised version that spaces them off the frame to prevent rotting... If yours looks crusty, then change it... If its not crusty but sitting on the frame then change it anyway...

If it was doing it from lack of fuel would I be smelling fuel so strongly? I assumed it was flooding due to the fact that it was getting fuel but something else not allowing it to fire up immediately. I will check it anyways tho.
