The transfer case shift motor is operated by power not vacuum as you already know. The wheel ends are engaged right now due to no vacuum being applied in 2 WD. That has nothing to do with the shift motor unless vacuum applied to the solenoid releases power to the shift motor.. I don't have the wiring diagram with me. That's what dirttracker may be getting at.

You will have to sort out the vacuum problem or you will be in 4wd all the time. I would find that problem first then you'll have to look at the shift motor.

Hello, can you hear the transfer case shift or can you get low range in it? The actuators should lock the axles when there is no vacuum, the vacuum pulls them off when in 2wd, I had this problem once on my 06 150 where 1 actuator stuck in the unlock position resulting in no 4wd so with the truck not running jack up the front end and spin the wheel and make sure the axle is turning with the wheel and them take some tubing and suck on the hose to see if the axle releases. The system should fail safe to lock if it loses vacuum. Hope this helps

I do not hear it shifting into 4hi, I know the transfer case motor is working because it was in the 4hi position when I changed it. I only checked the axle in the passengers side, I assumed with no vacuum both would turn regardless. I'll Jack up the driver's side and check that one out.

Sometimes its hard to hear that's why I suggested trying 4 low then you know it shifted, if there is no vacuum both should be locked that's what stumped me on mine when I disconnected the solenoid and still didn't have it, so I raised it up and the drivers was locked but tried the pass it was unlocked and when I got it off the hub was actually stuck in the unlock position so maybe its worth a try.

Ok, I checked the driver's side and it too is suck in the locked position. I definitely hear and feel it lock into 4lo, and in 4hi the front drive shaft didn't turn so that too locks in yet I get no 4wd. I do have a decent leak at the motor side of the driver's side half shaft.

Im thinking you found the problem if I remember correctly that shouldn't have that gap and also explain no 4wd, try popping it back in and see if it works but then you will have to find out why it did it. Did you have that shaft out for some reason and not get it reseated?

I had it in the shop over the summer, they put in an upper control arm and some other things on that side....
