Default 2004 F150 electrical problem. P0622

Good morning my 04 F150 (5.4 Lariat, new body) would intermittently give me the "check charging system" message. It comes on whenever it feels like, light doesn't dim, truck runs smoothly. My battery died months ago and was replaced with brand new battery from auto zone. I checked voltage and im getting 14 volts with truck running with or without error message. Altenator was tested (while on vehicle) by auto zone and it was good. Checked connectors and all connections are good. The code I get is P0622

Did have motor replaced December 2017. Any thoughts?

Voltage Regulator in the Alt is going bad.. Autozone does not check Alt under a load. Motorcraft re-man only.

Because of the intermittent nature of the problem, before replacing any parts, I would start by removing battery cables (BOTH), clean them real good, remove every electrical connection on alternator and clean them - including the pins in any 'plug' associated. Also check (wiggle / wrap on) the 'fuseable link' in the main charging wire. Reconnect everything and do a battery disconnect relearn process and see if the code returns.

He stated he already did that in his post... that's why I didn't mention any of what you told him.. Great starting point for sure.

True: My cheap-*** nature showing through again. Try everything in the world before replacing anything! LOL.

As it happens, I have just been 'hacking' the OBDII system on my truck for OBDII parameters associated with the Alternator / charging system and developing Torque Pro formulas for a reliable Torque diagnostic dashboard. One o the BEST sources my research lead me to - dealing with P0622 is here:

https://www.troublecodes.net/pcodes/p0622/

As soon as I get my Torque dashboard cleaned up / documented, I'll post it.

Problem solved, for now. It has been 3 weeks since I replaced my alternator and I haven't had an error message since. I did hear in someone's video to hand spin the pulley on the alternator and it should come to a stop on its own. If it's spins freely, then the internal brushes could be going bad. Mine spun freely with no resistance.. hope this helps.
